The City of Malibu will be sending test messages on its Everbridge Disaster Notification System every Thursday throughout September, starting September 8, as part of annual wildfire season preparedness and National Preparedness Month.
“The threat of wildfire is part of life in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, so it is up to every person, family, business and organization in Malibu to work towards community-wide preparedness,” said Mayor Paul Grisanti. “During National Preparedness Month, we will be testing our Everbridge Disaster Notification System, and I encourage everyone in Malibu to use the opportunity to make sure all their family members or employees are signed up for the various emergency alerts that are available to help you stay informed and stay safe in case of a disaster.”
All of Malibu’s National Preparedness Month event descriptions, schedules, signups, and other information are posted on the City website at www.MalibuCity.org/PrepMonth.
Everbridge Disaster Notification System Test Message
Every Thursday at 5 p.m., no sign-up required
The City will send a weekly test message using the Everbridge Disaster Notification System, which the City has been using for several years for the most serious emergencies that threaten lives and properties, and evacuations. Each week, the City will send a test message to one of Malibu’s Evacuation Zones. Look up your Evacuation Zone and maps at www.MalibuCity.org/Evac.
Thursday, Sept. 8, 5 p.m. – Evacuation Zone 11
Thursday, Sept. 15, 5 p.m. – Evacuation Zone 12
Thursday, Sept. 22, 5 p.m. – Evacuation Zone 13
Thursday, Sept. 29, 5 p.m. – Evacuation Zone 14
The Everbridge System is uploaded with nearly every landline and cell phone number attached to a Malibu address; however, residents and businesses can create a profile at www.MalibuCity.org/DisasterNotifications to enter a street address and additional landline and cell phone numbers, which helps improve the system’s effectiveness. If you do not receive the test message, or would like help updating your Everbridge contact information, contact the Public Safety Office at PublicSafety@MalibuCity.org. Those who prefer using apps for cellphones or tablets can also download the Everbridge app in the Apple App Store for iPhones or the Microsoft App Store for Android devices.
