There was more excitement than nerves at Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) campuses Thursday, as students returned to school with smiling faces district-wide.
At Edison Language Academy, the elementary students congregated in the cafeteria before being whisked away by their individual teachers. One of those teachers was fifth-grade instructor Carlos Morales, who took time to exchange fist bumps with all of his students as he entered his third decade in the district.
Moving up to the middle level, John Adams Middle School students were transfixed on finding their classroom assignments, while Principal Martha Chacon was at the entrance courtyard welcoming everyone back to JAMS.
Samohi seniors came back for their final first day of school, and were able to get their picture taken in the quad. Samohi Vikings athletics are also underway, with the football squad’s first contest Friday night in Chino.
