Hi, I’m Sol. I’m female Red Eared Slider. Being given the name Sol is no mystery. I am an expert sunbather and I’m perfectly content to spend the entire day cozy on a rock or log. I’d like to think I’m confident and independent as I’m not one of those girls that needs to be coddled and constantly reassured that I’m loved. You can hang out with while surfing your social media, texting, or working, and you’ll get no complaints for me. I’m too low-key and well-adjusted too engage in any drama. Plus, I know that if you’re willing to meet my needs in keeping my pond clean, warm, with plenty of access to sunshine for me to enjoy, obviously you love me. So, if you’re looking for a lady friend that will keep it cool, pull out your lawn chair and beach towel and adopt me. Sol, ID#A059749, is available for adoption at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter located at 1640 9th Street, Santa Monica CA, 90404. The shelter is closed to the public and adoptions are by appointment only by calling the shelter at (310) 458-8595.
PET TIP OF THE WEEK: REGULAR VET VISITS
Did you know that taking pets to their annual vet exam can help them live longer and prevent them from ending up in animal shelters?
Pet owners that skip annual vet visits are often overwhelmed when it is discovered that their pets are not only suffering, but that they have a full-blown illness that is too costly for them to treat. These pets have a high likelihood of ending up at local animal shelters. The relinquishment of sick animals in the shelter system not only adds to overcrowded shelters that already have limited medical resources to attend to illnesses, but these types of animals are more likely to be euthanized.
Some medical problems like skin and dental conditions occur gradually. But many animals compensate so these conditions are often missed by pet owners, even though it may cause them chronic pain and discomfort. Many illnesses like kidney and weight problems, when caught early, can be easily managed. Left untreated, pets may endure a tremendous amount of pain, the inability to thrive, and may cause families stress and heart ache at seeing their beloved pet suffer. This often leads to difficult decisions like whether the pet should rehomed due to lack of resources to treat the illness, or even euthanasia.
Taking pets to the vet regularly helps to prevents many serious illnesses, improves a pet’s quality of life, may increase their lifespan, and greatly reduces overcrowded shelters!
