An elderly Southern California man was killed when a hit-and-run motorist struck and dragged him about 900 feet.
Long Beach police say 79-year-old Elias Sanchez was struck Monday night by a white cargo van that fled without stopping.
The driver of a second vehicle attempted to swerve but could not avoid striking the victim. Police say that driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Firefighters pronounced Sanchez dead at the scene.
Police say Sanchez was in a marked crosswalk and had the green pedestrian signal when he was hit.
The van was described as a Chevrolet or Ford from the 1970s or '80s and had a ladder on the rear along with green writing.
