Registration for the Santa Monica YMCA Fall 2018 Youth Basketball league is underway as of 9:00 a.m. July 30, 2018. Those players wishing to participate are urged to register early as we have been filled to capacity for each of the last 6 seasons over two years, well before our new players evaluations which are being held just after Labor Day.
You can register in person in the lobby of the Santa Monica YMCA located at 1332-6th Street, 90401, or online at ymcasm.org
Registration forms will be sent via email to all former players who have played at the Santa Monica YMCA since Fall 2011.
Once again, the league plans to have 30 teams spread over four co-rec divisions (recreational players only please), based on skill, not age or grade. Generally, divisions are ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-8th grade (no high school players allowed)
Youth or teen members of the Santa Monica YMCA will pay $110 (ages 5-8) or $125 (ages 9-14), while
Non-members will pay $185 or $200.
Volunteer coaches and paid game referees are being sought. For more information contact League Director Peter Arbogast at 310-393-2721 x 137 or at ysports@ymcasm.org
Teams will begin practice in early September, practicing once a week for an hour in the Y’s indoor gym. Youngest teams practice at 4:20, oldest at 6:30 and all others at 4:20, 5:25 or 6:30, depending generally on their skill level.
Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning in late September and running through early December, with no games over the Thanksgiving holiday. Each team will play a nine-game schedule and all players play in a post-season all-star game. The Y provides awards for all and a free post-season awards pizza feed.
When filling out the registration form be sure to stipulate which days, if any, you cannot practice, providing you list at least two days on which the player can practice. Also, provide the names of players with whom you would like to play on the same team. It is not always possible to put friends on the same team due to competitive balance reason, but we do try to fill most requests.
