The City of Santa Monica announced Thursday morning that an electrical storm with lightning has been reported in the area and ordered an evacuation of all beaches.
"If on the beach or on the Santa Monica Pier, seek shelter indoors until the storm has ended," the City tweeted.
Santa Monica beaches were last evacuated due to lightning in July.
Thursday's evacuation order followed a storm that hit Southern California that morning, dropping a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain throughout Los Angeles County. Meteorologists warned that possible thunderstorms could bring heavier rain to some regions.
A heavier storm will hit the county Friday night, bringing up to three inches of rain and high winds. Scattered showers are also projected on Sunday.
