SMPD officers responded to the 1400 block of 16th Street for a disturbance at a business. The reporting party indicated that a female was throwing rocks at the windows of the business and provided a suspect description. Upon arrival officers observed a female matching the provided description sitting on the porch of the business. The suspect, Sofia Noviello, stated that she was throwing rocks at the business out of anger after being denied housing. Although the business did not want to press charges, they wanted Ms. Noviello removed from the property. Noviello refused. With no desire for prosecution, officers left the scene. They were called back to the location 5 minutes later after Noviello was accused of attempting to break down the door of the business. At this point, staff at the location signed a Private Person’s Arrest Form, a requirement for misdemeanor charges not committed in the presence of an officer. Noviello was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Monica Jail for booking where she was subsequently issued a citation for 594(a)(2) P.C. for vandalism.
