A few minutes before midnight on Monday night, a hit and run occurred in the 1200 block of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), southbound, between a sedan and pedestrian.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD), the pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and their condition is unknown, although it is known that they were still alive at the time of transport.
The driver of the vehicle returned and is in custody and cooperating with investigators.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the SMPD Watch Commander, which is 24 hour number, at 310-458-8427.
In May of this year, a multi-vehicle crash shut down the McClure Tunnel during afternoon traffic and in March of this year, a two-vehicle collision shut down the PCH by the 1500 block, close to the California Incline. Not only is the PCH is becoming notorious for traffic accidents, but also incidents involving pedestrians, many of them fatal.
At least 60 people have been killed on the PCH since 2010, most of them on a roughly two-mile residential stretch known as Dead Man’s Curve, including four students from Pepperdine University who tragically died in October 2023 when Fraser Michael Bohm lost control of his BMW at high speed and sideswiped at least three parked vehicles in Malibu. The four women were pronounced dead at the scene and the two others were taken to a hospital with injuries.
