Two local baseball squads saw their seasons continue in dramatic fashion Tuesday, while the Samohi Lady Vikings softball squad’s 2024 run came to a close.
In a second-round CIF playoff contest, the Samohi Vikings defeated the Ganesha Giants 3-2. A 2-2 game in the bottom of the sixth inning, Vikings junior Manny Lares had the hit of the game, bringing in fellow junior Jackson Myrow for the tie-breaking run.
The Vikings (19-7) will face off with Adelanto (21-9) on Friday with a spot in the Division V semifinals on the line. In the CIF-SS Division VIII bracket, the New Roads Jaguars were comeback kids against San Jacinto Valley Academy, erasing an early five-run deficit, then scoring three runs in the inning to take a 12-9 victory. The Jaguars’ (13-7) first playoff run since 2016 will continue on Friday against Pacifica Christian/Orange County (20-6).
The Lady Vikings dropped its second-round playoff home contest to La Quinta, 2-1. The softball squad ended its 2024 campaign with a 16-12-1 record.
