The Harvard-bound Luke Zelon just got a little help covering school expenses.
The Samohi standout linebacker was honored early this month by the National Football Foundation’s Los Angeles chapter for both his performance on the gridiron and in the classroom. He was awarded $10,000 to go toward a master’s degree if he plays three years of college football. He will also receive $500 in cash.
Zelon was thrilled by the honor, but said pro football aspirations may push him in a different direction.
“The NFL is my first choice,” Zelon said. “But, if not, I’m really interested in earth science.”
He said, fortunately, he won’t have to make that decision any time soon.
Zelon was one of 49 players up for the award. He was one of three runners up.
“I’m humbled that people are recognizing me and my hard work,” Zelon said.
