CYPRESS COLLEGE — Santa Monica’s boys’ volleyball team rallied form a two set deficit to take Cathedral to five games, but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Vikings fell in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 title game on Tuesday.
The defending champions, Samohi, came into the match as the winners of the Ocean League.
Cathedral was the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Samohi baseball eliminated
Downey held off Samohi, 5-1, to advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 3 baseball playoffs on Friday at home.
Samohi was the second place finisher in the Ocean League this season. Downey moves on to face Los Altos on Tuesday in round two.
Pacifica Christian, New Roads move on
Pacifica Christian’s baseball team blanked North County Christian, 7-0, Friday to advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs.
The Seawolves will face Cate on Tuesday at home.
Also in Division 7, New Roads, the No. 3 seed in the field, dominated Public Safety Academy, 23-2, on Friday to set up a road matchup with Big Pine, also on Tuesday.
