The Rotary Club of Santa Monica has been very busy this holiday season. From serving the police Thanksgiving dinner, Ringing the Bell for the Salvation Army, being Holiday Angels for Connections for Children, hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross, and raising money to assist the victims of the recent wildfires, our members have been busy making a difference in our community.
It’s time to announce our most recent Unsung Hero, Colette Doyle! Colette is a retired teacher and has been the lead facilitator for the Santa Monica Boys and Girls Club STEM Mentoring program. She created a Book Club to help members with their reading comprehension and proficiency, and has donated countless books and school supplies to the members. To top that off, she is well known for bringing the kids cupcakes, fruit and good job stickers to every program session. These items are donated by Colette and she never asks for help or anything in return. The Boys and Girls Club writes that, “the amount of time and effort Colette dedicates to their youth is beyond measurable. They are amazed everyday by the level of commitment and genuine love she has for their organization and the youth they serve. She has authentic appreciation for the staff and wants to serve a purpose in impacting the kids in our community.” Congratulations Colette! This past Friday our members could be seen Ringing the Bell for Red Kettle Day for the Salvation Army. Thanks to the generosity of club members and the community, the Santa Monica Rotary Club raised over $6,000 in one day of Ringing the Bell!
On Saturday, December 15th, our members participated in being Holiday Angels for Connections for Children. Members donated, sorted and wrapped hundreds of gifts to help make the holidays merry and bright!
In light of the recent wildfires that have ravaged our community, the Rotary Club of Santa Monica matched $10,000 in donations for local fire relief victims. In addition, the Club held a blood drive for the American Red Cross, the results of which will be given to victims and others of these devastating fires.
