I find the anti-Measure LV sentiments expressed in mailers and some newspaper columns to be entirely unconvincing. This is a "David vs Goliath" situation as some big developers have made substantial donations to oppose Measure LV.
Passage of Measure LV would simply empower voting residents to approve or disapprove certain proposed development projects after they've been through the usual vetting process with the Planning Commission and City Council. If a special election is required as a result of the passage of Measure LV, the developer trying to get approval of a project would have to fund it.
As encouraged by Hans Christian Anderson's Classic story "The Emperor's New Clothes," let us think for ourselves!
Let's vote "YES!" on Measure LV and help make Santa Monica a better place!
