The Fairview library branch needs to open up even on a part time basis. The city seems to neglect it like a red-headed step child.
There are seniors, families, students and children that live in the Sunset Park area that rely on its valuable resources.
That being said, our City Wi-Fi has been out in the Sunset Park area since May 26. The system just disappeared without any warning or notification. Several people have called the Information System to no avail. This is baffling as the Santa Monica Wi-Fi is working in other areas of the city functioning quite well.
Upon further research, I discovered that the system was shut down in the Sunset Park area for no apparent reason. I was given the answer that is that it was being “maintained.” That was a very vague explanation as it’s not working for those seniors, low income families, students and children that live in the Sunset Park area that rely on it for communication.
After speaking with several neighbors who called our city council members; some of those newly elected and never got a call back let alone an explanation with any spin doctoring in the answer, I investigated and discovered that the current Santa Monica council members have to vote on the subject in order to turn on the power so that the Sunset Park residents can use the system once again that was perfectly running before May 26.
It seems like a case of George Orwell’s Animal Farm; all residents of Santa Monica are equal, but some residents are more equal than others.
