On May 13 at approximately 4:45 p.m.,Santa Monica police officers responded to L&K Market at 2127 Main St., after a passerby noticed the front gate and door of the business were open, and several items were strewn about outside.
Officers determined the business had been burglarized, then followed a trail of dropped items that appeared to have come from the store. The trail led to the suspect, who was found sleeping under a staircase at a residence at the 200 block of Pacific Street. The suspect also had several products from the store with him, including beer, cigarettes, food and lottery tickets.
Officers later discovered the suspect used a metal sign to pry open the security gate to gain access into the store, and that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia as well. The suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Monica jail for burglary. Joseph Kalani Peltier, 57, of Santa Monica had bail set at $20,000.
