A suspicious package was found on Arizona Avenue between 24th Street and 25th Street early Wednesday afternoon and the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) cleared the area.
The Tactical Bomb Squad of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigated the package and found it did not contain explosives, SMPD announced on Twitter at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. The area was reopened.
The City of Santa Monica sent out a SMAlert asking anyone in the area to shelter in place. The Santa Monica-Unified School District tweeted that all students at nearby McKinley Elementary School were safe indoors away from the package.
