Suspect arrested after punching man in face on beach

On August 24 at about 11:10 p.m.
Officers assigned to the beach were dispatched to an assault that occurred in the 1200 block of the beach. When officers arrived, LA County Lifeguards were out with all the parties involved. The victim and his friend were lying on the sand for about twenty minutes when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect asked if they could share some sunscreen, which they did. The suspect came back later and asked them, "Are you guys gay?" When the victim asked why that mattered, the suspect stood over him and punched him in the face, causing his glasses to break and a one inch laceration above his eyebrow. The suspect then walked back over to where his belongings were on the beach.
Jose Luis Lopez, 32, of Los Angeles had bail set at $20,000.
