On July 27, 2017 at about 9:54 p.m.,
Officers observed a vehicle fail to yield for pedestrians at a crosswalk at Main Street and Bay Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle for the violation at the 300 block of Olympic Blvd. As officers approached the vehicle, they observed one of the passengers reaching into the seat pocket of where he was seated attempting to conceal an open can of beer. The occupants of the vehicle were asked to step out of the vehicle and complied. A search of one of the subjects led to the recovery of a .44 caliber handgun concealed in his waistband. The suspect was taken into custody. A second suspect had an outstanding drunk in public warrant for his arrest.
Hector Jehova Bonilla, 20, from Moreno Valley was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public and gang enhancement. Bail was set at $75,000.
Daniel Joshua Najera, 23, from Santa Monica was arrested for having an outstanding warrant. Bail was set at $5,000.
