Saturday, July 24, at 10:20 a.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 2900 block of Delaware Avenue regarding a report of domestic violence. When officers arrived they could hear people yelling from inside the residence. Officers knocked on the door and a female answered. She allegedly told officers that she was the only person inside the home. A man then exited and was very confrontational with the officers, police said. Both said there was no one else inside the residence. Officers didn’t believe them and decided to check the home. Officers said they found numerous marijuana plants and devices to cultivate marijuana. Officers arrested both suspects. Crystal Anderson, 21, of Santa Monica was arrested for allegedly injuring her roommate, cultivating marijuana and obstruction of justice. Her bail was set at $50,000. Stephen Nakashima, 25, of Santa Monica, was arrested for cultivating cannabis and obstruction of justice. His bail was set at $30,000.
Tuesday, July 20, at 4:45 a.m.,
Officers conducted a periodic check for trespassers in the 1700 block of Olympic Boulevard. When officers arrived, they allegedly observed a person sleeping on the property. Officers told the person that he was trespassing and would need to leave. At the same time the next day officers returned to the property and saw the same man sleeping there. Officers had a written letter from the property owner to arrest anyone trespassing on the property. Officers informed the suspect of the letter and placed him under arrest for trespassing. He was identified as Teddie Reynolds, 40, a transient. His bail was set at $1,000.
Thursday, July 22, at 3:40 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue (Ocean View Hotel) regarding a woman on the property who allegedly refused to leave. When officers arrived, they made contact with a hotel employee who told them that there was a woman in the lobby who was not a guest and refused to leave. Officers talked with the suspect and she again said she was not leaving. Officers placed her under arrest for trespassing. She was identified as Elena Gerber, 44, of Chula Vista. Her bail was set at $1,000.
Thursday, July 22, at 9:45 p.m.,
Officers received a call regarding an intoxicated subject challenging people to fight in the 1300 block of Fourth Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a man matching the description of the suspect. As officers attempted to contact the subject, he yelled an obscenity, police said. Immediately, the subject ran away from officers. Officers followed him as he continued to run away. Officers located the subject hiding beneath a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Second Street. The subject refused to come out from underneath the vehicle and was yelling unintelligibly at officers. Officers were able to extricate the subject from under the vehicle. As officers made contact with the suspect, they could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from him. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for public intoxication. The suspect was unwilling to walk on his own and had to be carried to the police car, police said. As officers attempted to search the suspect for weapons, he allegedly kicked at the officers; striking one in the leg. The suspect, Travis Swanson,19 (refused to give location of residence), was transported to the Santa Monica Jail and booked for assault and battery on a peace officer, obstruction of justice and public intoxication. His bail was set at $20,000.
Monday, July 25, at 6:57 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk (Chess Park) regarding a battery that just occurred. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who told officers that the suspect approached him and asked him if he wanted to play chess. When the victim refused, the suspect, apparently upset with the way the victim responded, kicked him. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly repeatedly struck the victim in the face. The suspect then fled. Later that day, officers went back to the Chess Park after getting a report that the suspect was there. Officers arrived and placed the suspect under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation. He was identified as Anthony Weatherbee, 43, of Yucaipa, Calif. No bail information was provided.
Monday, July 26, at 5:15 p.m.,
Officers stopped a vehicle that was driving recklessly in the area of 11th and Pearl streets. Officers said the driver failed to stop at a stop sign, was driving too fast and made the vehicle skid to a halt at a red light before passing vehicles by using the center, double left turn lane. When officers approached the driver, they said he was trying to hide something between his legs. Officers asked the suspect to exit the vehicle. As he got out, he allegedly made a throwing motion with his left hand and put his right hand to his mouth. Officers asked the suspect what he put in his mouth. He told them, “It was just weed,” police said. Officers arrested the suspect for reckless driving. During the booking search, officers found a glass pipe used to smoke narcotics. Officers also said they found another glass pipe in the vehicle. Officers said they found what the suspect threw to the ground; a small plastic bag containing a white residue, most likely cocaine. The suspect was ultimately arrested for reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was identified as Tommie Booker III, 38. His bail was set at $5,000.
Tuesday, July 27, at 3:58 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 300 block of Colorado Avenue (Sears) regarding a shoplifting suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they made contact with store security who said the suspect entered the store with a Sears bag and a shoe box. The suspect went to the shoe department, allegedly placed shoes in the empty box and placed the box in the bag before heading to a cashier and attempting to return those shoes. The suspect was placed under a citizen’s arrest by store security and he was booked for burglary. The suspect was identified as James Coppage, 42, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $20,000.
