Monday, Jan. 3, at 2:44 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 2100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard — Saint John’s Health Center — regarding a social worker who was being assaulted. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who said that the suspect had kicked her several times in the knee, grabbed her breast and wouldn’t let go and pulled her hair. The victim said she came into the emergency room because the suspect was agitated and harassing staff. After the victim was allegedly assaulted, the suspect bit a security guard’s finger as he came in to help, police said. The suspect, Linda Rodriguez, 57, of Los Angeles, was arrested for assault and battery. Her bail was set at $20,000.
Thursday, Jan. 6, at 12 p.m.,
Officers were about the serve a search warrant when they saw a suspect and her boyfriend walk to her vehicle and drive off. Officers followed the suspects and watched as they allegedly sold tar heroin to another suspect. Officers detained all three and located drugs in the car and outside of it. Officers arrested the suspects, who were identified as Sheila Briody, 39 of Santa Monica; Gregory Troy, 40, of Santa Monica; and Kevin Walsh, 45, of Santa Monica. Briody and Troy were booked for transportation of a controlled substance and conspiracy. Their bail was set at $30,000. Walsh was booked for possession of drugs and a probation violation. No bail was set.
Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 1:10 p.m.,
Officers responded to the Santa Monica Pier — Bubba Gump’s — regarding a report of someone refusing to pay their bill. When officers arrived, they made contact with a restaurant employee who told them that the two suspects ordered $68.59 worth of food. They ate. After finishing, one of the suspects left the business as the other went to the bathroom. When he came out, he was confronted by a waiter who demanded the bill be paid. The suspect said he did not have any money and the other suspect was long gone. The man was arrested for defrauding an innkeeper. He was identified as Marwy Hidalgo, 19, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $500.
Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, 3:39 p.m.,
Officers were following a vehicle in the 1000 block of Ocean Avenue when they saw the driver swerve into the bike lane, cutting off a cyclist and a pedestrian. Officers followed the vehicle and watched the driver make two more vehicle code violations. Officers pulled the driver over and conducted a series of balance and coordination tests. Officers believed the driver was under the influence of something, but could not smell alcohol on her breath. Further investigation revealed that the driver had taken prescription drugs prior to driving. Officers placed the driver under arrest for driving while impaired. She was identified as Jane Plotkin, 61, of Topanga. Her bail was set at $15,000.
Friday, Dec. 31, at 8:10 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Pico Boulevard regarding someone who was passed out. When officers arrived, they made contact with the man. The man stood up and had to hold onto a parking meter to maintain his balance, police said. The man displayed signs of extreme intoxication. Officers felt he was unable to care for himself and placed him under arrest for being drunk in public. Officers were unable to get the man’s name so he was booked under John Doe, 27. His bail was set at $250.
Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11:04 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 700 block of Broadway — Vons — regarding a suspect in possession of a knife and holding it in a threatening manner. When officers arrived, they made contact with an employee at the grocery store who said that the suspect had been in the business several times and was known for stealing things. The employee asked the suspect to leave. As they were walking out of the store, the suspect allegedly removed a knife and brandished it at the victim. The suspect was yelling at the victim in a threatening manner. The suspect then left. Officers located him a short distance away. The suspect, Phillip Nides, 57, a transient, was arrested and booked for carrying a concealed weapon, brandishing a weapon and a parole violation. He was not eligible for bail.
