Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 2:15 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of the Third Street Promenade — Apple Store — regarding a report of a drunk man causing a scene who refused to leave. When officers arrived, they saw the suspect fighting with two security guards. As officers attempted to break up the fight and subdue the suspect, one was kicked in the leg twice. The suspect continued to fight and resist, police said, at which time cops used a Taser to subdue him. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for battery and public intoxication. Officers said the suspect was inside the Apple Store using display equipment to play music at an excessively high volume, causing a disturbance. When asked to stop, he refused and became verbally aggressive, allegedly threatening store employees. That’s when the fight broke out. The suspect was identified as Jericho Lee, 19, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.
Sunday, Oct. 9, at 1:20 a.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the 500 block of Olympic Boulevard when they saw someone riding their bicycle on the sidewalk in violation of the Santa Monica Municipal Code. Officers stopped to speak with the man and during their conversation learned that he had a warrant for his arrest. During a search of the suspect’s backpack, officers said they found marijuana and a BB gun that resembled a semi-automatic handgun. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked for pot possession (less than an ounce), riding his bike on the sidewalk, and the local warrant. He was identified as Karl Padgett, 23, a transient. His bail was set at $1,725.
Sunday, Oct. 9, at 10:55 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 2400 block of Pico Boulevard — Rite Aid — regarding a report of a theft. When officers arrived, they made contact with a store security guard who said he saw the suspect enter the store and walk towards a display case containing watches. The suspect took four watches, concealed them inside his jacket, and left the store without paying for the items. Security detained the suspect outside of the store and brought him back to their office to fill out some paperwork. While there, the suspect said he could not go to jail, and walked out of the store, security said. Using the store’s security camera footage, officers were able to identify the suspect and located him in the 1900 block of 22nd Street. During the arrest, officers said they recovered more stolen goods. The suspect was positively identified by store security and booked for commercial burglary and violation of parole. He was identified as Douglas Kaufman, 46, of Santa Monica. No bail was set.
Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2:21 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 500 block of Olympic Boulevard — OPCC — after receiving a report that an assault had just occurred. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who said that he had just returned to the homeless shelter and while out front he made some kind of comment to the suspect, who struck him in the face several times with his fist. The victim ran inside and notified OPCC employees. Officers located the suspect, who was sitting outside the shelter, and detained him. He was identified by the victim and placed under arrest for battery, a probation violation and public intoxication. He was identified as Frank Sambrano, 22, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9:04 p.m.,
Officers where on routine patrol in the 1600 block of Court 11 (the alley east of 11th Street) when they saw a suspect illegally camping in a public space. Officers made contact with the man, who had several local warrants for his arrest. Officers detained the suspect and during a search of his belongings they found drug paraphernalia in his pants pocket and some methamphetamine. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Monica Jail, where he was booked for possession of meth and marijuana (less than an ounce) and the local warrants. He was identified as Alexander Coleman, 25, a transient. His bail was set at $12,580.
Friday, Oct. 7, at 3:52 p.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol near the corner of 16th Street and Delaware Avenue when they saw a 2005 Jeep Cherokee fail to stop for a stop sign. Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Pico Boulevard and made contact with the driver. Officers said they could smell marijuana coming from the passenger’s side of the vehicle. Officers asked both the driver and passenger to step outside the vehicle. The passenger admitted that he had a glass pipe on him. Officers searched the suspect and recovered the pipe and some cocaine. The passenger was placed under arrest and booked for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was identified as Dwayne Freeman, 28, of Sherman Oaks, Calif. His bail was set at $10,000. The driver of the Jeep was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign and released at the scene.
Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 12:05 a.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the 900 block of Court 5 (alley east of Fifth Street) when they saw a man stumbling as he tried to walk, almost falling on several occasions. Officers made contact with the man and determined he was too intoxicated to care for himself. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance and a probation violation. He was identified as James Winston Brown, 37, a transient. His bail was set at $10,000.
