LOSANGELES — The city that gave the world Carmageddon has a new traffic jam to offer — and avoid.
Transportation officials in LosAngeles warned Tuesday that a repaving project will shut lanes on a heavily traveled Westside freeway over next month's Presidents Day weekend.
Holding with what has become local tradition, the potential traffic nightmare has a name: "Jamzilla."
For 80 hours starting Feb. 14, crews will be repaving nearly six miles of northbound lanes of Interstate 405 between west LosAngeles and the San Fernando Valley. While two lanes will remain open during the day, all five will be closed at night.
Officials said they're starting to warn drivers a month in advance because, without the public's cooperation, delays could last hours.
