Monday, April 5, at 2:05 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 900 block of Wilshire Boulevard regarding a report of an assault that just occurred. When officers arrived, they were advised by a witness that the suspect, identified as Charles Hoover, 21, of Santa Monica, had just assaulted his ex-girlfriend by spitting his gum in her face. Officers located Hoover a short distance away. While talking with the suspect, officers said he was under the influence of alcohol. Officers held the suspect while they spoke with the alleged victim, who said she had indeed been spit on. Officers arrested Hoover for battery and public intoxication. His bail was set at $20,000.
Monday, April 5, at 5:50 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue regarding a person who refused to leave a private building. When officers arrived, a security guard told them he heard someone yelling in the lobby. When he went to confront the person, the man allegedly replied, “F...k you, I know my rights.” The security guard called police and told the suspect to leave or he would be arrested for trespassing. The suspect was still there when officers arrived and he was arrested for trespassing. He was identified as John Doe. No other information was provided by police. His bail was set at $500.
Wednesday, April 7, at 8:48 p.m.,
Officers responded to the intersection of Neilson Way and Pacific Street regarding a traffic collision. When officers arrived, they made contact with the driver of the vehicle that rear-ended a 1957 Chevy. During the conversation, officers believed the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol. Officers had the driver perform a series of balance and coordination tests. Upon completion, officers believed the driver was under the influence and placed her under arrest for DUI. She was identified as Tammi Baliszweski, 46, of Marina del Rey. Her bail was set at $5,000.
Tuesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the 800 block of Ninth Street when they observed a man rummaging through recycling bins in violation of the municipal code. When officers contacted the suspect, they discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspect was placed under arrest for a warrant, which was for petty theft. He was identified as Lennie Jenkins, 40, a transient. His bail was set at $2,500.
Thursday, April 8, at 12:30 a.m.,
Officers received a radio call to respond to the 400 block of Wilshire Boulevard — Chevron — regarding a disturbing the peace call. When officers arrived, they talked to a witness who said that two people were involved in a verbal altercation and threatened to beat each other up. One of the guys was holding a glass bottle by the neck in a threatening manner. The one without the bottle went to his car and pulled out a tire iron. When officers arrived, they saw the man with the tire iron and placed him under arrest for threatening to fight in public. He was identified as Gregory Kent, 58, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $2,500.
Tuesday, March 16, at 8:30 p.m.,
Officers responded to the front desk of the police department’s headquarters regarding a burglary report. The victim told officers that she had her vehicle parked in a structure in the 1400 block of Fourth Street. When they returned to the vehicle, the owner saw that the driver’s side door had been pried open and one seat was missing. Further evidence revealed a possible suspect. Detectives contacted the potential suspect and he was arrested for burglary. Further investigation revealed that the potential suspect was a valet from a location that the victim had parked the previous day. The valet was released and no charges were filed.
Friday, April 9, at 4:30 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2600 block of Broadway regarding a vehicle burglary. A witness advised officers that he saw a suspect enter a vehicle through the passenger side window that was broken. The suspect allegedly removed a stereo and fled. Upon arrival, officers observed a man who matched the description of the suspect. A field show-up was conducted with the witness. The suspect was positively identified as the individual that was inside the vehicle. The suspect was in possession of a car stereo and broken spark plug pieces, which are often used to break car windows. The suspect, identified as Juan Bautista, 27, a transient, was booked for possession of stolen property and burglary tools. His bail was set at $20,000.
