DOWNTOWN Suspects involved in a distraction style burglary that occurred in the 500 block of Bay Street earlier this week were arrested thanks to help from the victim, police said Friday.
Delia Yonko, of Los Angeles; Laura Mark-Stevens, of Hayward; and Tammy Boswell, a transient, were arrested Sept. 30 by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division after the victim wrote down their license plate number and handed it to police.
SMPD Sgt. Renaldi Thruston said the suspects made up a story and asked the victim to allow them inside her home to wash their hands. Once inside, on suspect distracted the victim, while another suspect stole the victim’s wallet from her purse.
After they left, the victim noticed her wallet was missing and wrote down the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle before they drove off.
LAPD officers arrested the suspects and they were transferred to the Santa Monica Jail, where they were booked for burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call SMPD detectives at (310) 458-8451 or the watch commander at (310) 458-8427. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27468).
