CITY HALL — City Hall proposes to spend up to $1.5 million on new hardware and software in Santa Monica to provide services and store data.
City officials are proposing contracts with three companies — CDW, EnPointe and Nth Generation — for the parts and software needed to keep the systems running.
According to the city staff report, City Hall would cement a $700,000 contract with CDW, which provides switches, routers and software for Cisco, the brand City Hall uses for its networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
EnPointe, which sells Hewlett-Packard servers, printers and computer components, would be locked in at $500,000, while Nth Generation would get $300,000 for virtual memory for storing information.
Software and hardware would only be purchased if money is available, according to the staff report.
The remainder of the $1.69 million consent agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting will be spent on the Big Blue Bus system.
Needs a wash
The council is expected to approve a three-year contract with a Colorado company for chemicals used to clean the exterior of the Big Blue buses.
The company, DeltaGreen, would supply and deliver bus wash shampoo for three years under the $300,000 agreement.
The company beat out five other bidders, despite the fact that three of the five bids came in lower than DeltaGreen.
According to the staff report, two of the companies did not meet the criteria laid out by city officials, and DeltaGreen offered a more environmentally-friendly product than Econoline Industrial Supply, although it also offered a lower-cost bid.
Only $100,000 is available in the current budget. The rest of the money will be worked into future budget years.
Wheels on the bus
Officials recommend that City Hall continue to contract with Truck Gears Inc. for repair and rebuild for Big Blue Bus axles for $282,000 over the course of three years.
The company has been fixing the rear axles on municipal buses since 2005. It competed against only one other bidder.
If approved, City Hall will pay out $90,000 this year, with two one-year renewal options for $94,000 and $98,000, respectively.
