WASHINGTON, D.C. — Santa Monica’s Taxi! Taxi! is one of 56 small businesses from across the country to receive the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Award, an honor given to American companies that showcase excellence in entrepreneurship.
“Winners of the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award represent the country’s finest business success stories,” said Thomas J. Donohue, the U.S. chamber’s president and CEO. “In today’s difficult business climate, it is especially important to highlight those companies that continue to excel. It is their dedication to sound business principles that will enable us to rebuild our nation’s economy.”
Designed to honor businesses demonstrating exemplary performance in a variety of criteria, the Sam’s Club-sponsored Blue Ribbon Small Business Award pays tribute to businesses showcasing financial growth, investment in staff training and motivation of employees, community involvement, customer service, and business planning.
The 56 award winners from around the country will be honored at America’s Small Business Summit 2009, May 11–13, in Washington, D.C. The award is part of the chamber’s America’s Small Business of the Year Award selection process. One Blue Ribbon Small Business will be selected from each of the seven regions as a finalist for the 2009 America’s Small Business of the Year Award. Each of the regional finalists will be announced on March 16.
“The Blue Ribbon Small Business award means more than just looking at the bottom line,” Donohue said. “This award is for businesses that are committed to supporting their employees, following best business practices, and improving their communities. These businesses have made that commitment and we are proud to recognize their contributions.”
