On March 20 at approximately 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking structure near the 1500 block of 2nd Street in regards to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon arriving, officers were told the suspect, later identified as Joshua Williams, 23, homeless, was sleeping near the entrance of the parking structure when the victim, a security guard working at the structure, asked him to leave.
As Williams stood up to leave, the guard noticed that Williams had a knife in his hand. In fear for his safety, guard, pulled out his pepper spray and sprayed Williams. Williams began to run away and the guard chased him. At some point while being chased, Williams turned and threw a metal chain with a lock at the victim. The guard, in fear for his safety, stopped chasing the suspect.
Information on the suspect was broadcasted, and as responding officers approached the scene, they identified and detained Williams. Williams was placed under arrest, and a subsequent search found three credit cards and an ID that belonged to other people.
Williams was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and appropriation of lost property. Officers later determined that Williams had 13 outstanding warrants; he was additionally booked for the warrants. Bail was set at $111,500.
