PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Two Arizona men are under arrest and face attempted murder charges for the brutal beating of a Santa Monica resident while he was working out on Santa Monica Boulevard last month, authorities said Saturday.
Bryan Hale, 24, of Tempe, Ariz. and Brett Davis, 25, of Fountain Hills, Ariz. are being held on a $1,030,000 bonds and are expected to be extradited to Los Angeles within the next few days, according to a press release issued by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies conducted a surveillance operation using information provided by the Santa Monica Police Department and took the suspects into custody Friday.
“I am proud of the hard work by my deputies,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “These arrests came to a successful conclusion with the interstate coordination of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Monica Police Department.”
The assault took place in the early morning hours of Sept. 22 on the 3100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Busby’s bar. The victim, a 45-year-old movie producer, was working out around 2:20 a.m. with hand weights and sparring gloves when the two suspects allegedly approached him from behind and beat him with his weights.
The victim suffered a collapsed skull, several brain bleeds and a broken jaw and neck and back fractures, according to the press release.
While the victim is expected to survive, doctors said long-term effects from the beating are very possible, sheriff’s deputies added.
Santa Monica police released surveillance video footage which showed two men running southbound on Berkeley Street shortly after the beating occurred.
Police said the suspects were working in Los Angeles for an unidentified moving company.
