A 19-year-old man who was gravely injured when flames tore through a high-rise apartment tower in Los Angeles last week died from smoke inhalation and burns, the coroner’s office said Monday.
Jeremy Bru died Friday evening at a hospital.
“Following examination, the cause of death was certified as complications of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries and the manner of death is accident,” said Sarah Ardalani, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner
Ardalani did not have a city of residence for Bru.
He was among 11 people who were treated after last Wednesday’s fire, mostly for smoke inhalation. Seven of them, including a 3-month-old child, were sent to hospitals. There was no updated word on their conditions.
In addition, two firefighters received minor burns as they scrambled to reach the apartment where the blaze began using bottled oxygen, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire at Barrington Plaza is under investigation.
