Is our privacy protected? Are our conversations through social media and in our personal spaces private? Hamid Khan, campaign coordinator for The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition will lead a discussion on Sunday, June 2 at Virginia Avenue Park (2200 Virginia Avenue, Santa Monica, CA) at 6:30 p.m. on state-sanctioned surveillance and the threat to our privacy.
As we go through our daily routines of work, running errands, attending school and socializing, we tend to think that our conversations are private -- why would corporations or the state find our lives of interest? One might be surprised at the extent to which our data is collected and to what lengths it is filed and accessed.
Hamid Khan will discuss his international work to create dialogues on how counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency programs are being codified into domestic policing tactics.
