CoderDojo, a global volunteer movement to teach kids to code for free, has founded a new chapter which will meet at the Santa Monica Public Library beginning on Saturday, November 10 at 3 p.m. in the Main Library’s Children’s Activity Room, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
Through a CoderDojo, young people learn how to code in a sociable, fun environment that emphasizes how coding can be a force for change in the world. The first session will focus on Java and is open to young people age 11-17 (parents are welcome too). Participants are expected to collaborate, learn together, and openly share their code and ideas. The library will have a limited number of computers available for use, but participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop if possible. Knowledge of coding opens the door to new career opportunities, stimulates new ways of thinking, and develops greater understanding of our digital world.
This program is free, but registration is required; visit the Youth Services Desk or call 310-458-8621 to sign up. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible.
