A group of community activists is organizing a rally against a proposed development at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and 26th Street, asking the City Council to vote down the controversial project that would include office space, housing and retail.
Groups, including Santa Monicans for Renters' Rights and Santa Monica Coalition for a Livable City, are asking residents to gather in front of City Hall Tuesday at 6 p.m. to let their voices be heard.
They say the Bergamot Transit Village is too large at 767,000 square feet and would generate too much traffic if it is constructed.
"The cumulative effect of the Bergamot project and 35 other large projects winding their way through the planning process would add 24,000 new car trips every day to this already severely congested area" said architect Dan Jansenson, member of Santa Monica Architects for a Responsible Tomorrow.
