Jack Beckley, an avid and enthusiastic lawn bowler, passed away in 2002, but his legacy lives on in the Jack Beckley Friendship Tournament that was started that same year by his family and friends.
The Santa Monica Bowls Club in Douglas Park at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and 25th Street in Santa Monica will be hosting the 13th iteration of this event on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Lawn bowlers from all over Southern California will be participating.
If you have ever seen their members on the green and wondered what they were doing, then this is the perfect time to find out and see some great, competitive bowling. The public is invited to come and watch, and there will be members of the club there to explain the rules and finer points of the game.
Their members run the gamut from social bowlers to members of the US Team. Bowls is played by men & women, ages 14 to whatever, and our membership consists of bowlers from over a dozen different countries. Lawn bowls is a game, a recreation and a sport - it's whatever you want it to be. New members are always welcome. Come and see for yourself.
