PICO BLVD — A 28-year-old Highland Park man was killed Saturday morning after his scooter collided with a Santa Monica Police Department patrol car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The identity of the man has not yet been released pending notification of his family.
The police cruiser was driving on Fourth Street approaching Pico Boulevard as the man drove his scooter on Pico toward Fourth.
"They're still investigating the collision but for some reason they collided at the intersection of Pico and Fourth and as a result of the collision the man that was riding his scooter died from the injury," said CHP Ofc. Kevin Tao.
SMPD officials deferred to CHP for comment on the incident.
