With the demolition and rebuilding of Parking Structure 2, the Santa Monica Police Department will be closing the Downtown Substation on Second Street.
Friday will be the last day of operation, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
Although the substation is closing, service in Downtown should remain the same, with police officers and Downtown service officers continuing to patrol the streets, alleys and Palisades Park on foot and on bicycles.
Anyone who needs to file a report or get assistance for a non-emergency should call (310) 458--8491 or visit the Public Safety Facility at 333 Olympic Dr., in the Civic Center.
For emergencies or to report suspicious activity or a crime in progress, always call 911, Lewis said.

SMPD Lt. Jay Trisler said there are tentative plans to set up a kiosk on the Third Street Promenade that would be operated by the police department, however, nothing has been finalized.
