PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Police are searching for a charcoal-colored Toyota Camry involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Santa Monica Boulevard this morning.
An unidentified white male in his late 50s or 60s was struck and killed around 5:50 a.m. while walking in a crosswalk against a red light at the southern intersection of Lincoln and Santa Monica boulevards, Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.
The driver of the Camry continued southbound on Lincoln Boulevard with damage to the right side of the vehicle and its hood. The vehicle is believed to be either a 2009 or 2011 model.
“It’s also missing the passenger-side mirror,” Lewis said.
A witness at the scene called police.
Lewis said the victim was not carrying any identification and investigators are waiting for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to provide more information.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call SMPD detectives at (310) 458-8451 or the watch commander at (310) 458-8427. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27463).
So far this year there have been five fatal traffic collisions in Santa Monica involving automobiles and pedestrians, Lewis said.
