Saturday, July 16, at 2:36 a.m.,
Santa Monica police officers on routine patrol in the 2500 block of Ocean Front Walk made contact with two bicyclists and determined that one of them had a warrant. During a search of the suspect, officers said they found three baggies containing methamphetamine. A search of the second cyclist uncovered meth and approximately 200 grams of marijuana, police said. Both were placed under arrest and were booked for possession of controlled substances. They were identified as Kemberly Dee Jordan, 52, a transient; and Chris Henry Bouldin, 25, a transient. Bail was set at $10,000 for each.
Sunday, July 17, at 2:10 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard — Sake House — regarding a theft. When officers arrived, they made contact with the manager of the restaurant who told them that a woman walked into the place, ordered some food, ate and then said she didn’t have any way to pay her bill. The woman made excuses and then left the restaurant. She was detained outside by police, who recognized her from several other similar thefts at restaurants. The manager wanted her arrested, so the officers detained her and she was booked for defrauding an innkeeper, public intoxication and a probation violation. She was identified as Marne Chaix, 68, a resident of North Beach, Calif. Her bail was set at $10,000.
Saturday, July 16, at 10:16 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1200 block of 11th Street regarding a fight in progress. When officers arrived, they detained two men believed to be involved. After interviewing the men, officers learned that they were former roommates. The two began arguing when one of them showed up at the residence to pick up some items left there. During the fight, the victim was allegedly kicked in the chest and struck in the face with a wooden stick, suffering a broken nose. Based on statements made and evidence at the scene, officers placed the suspect under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. He was identified as David Hepburn Starling, 55, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $30,000.
Friday, July 15, at 7:24 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue — Senior Recreation Center — regarding a report of vandalism. When officers arrived, they made contact with a custodian at the center who said that he was inside cleaning when he heard some commotion coming from outside. When he went to investigate, he saw a man who appeared to be arguing with himself. He then watched as the man picked up a city trash can lid, which weighs 40 pounds, and threw it through the glass door and then walked away. Armed with a description of the suspect, officers were able to locate him in the 1300 block of Second Street and placed him under arrest for vandalism. Officers said the man immediately confessed to the crime. He was identified as Justin Garrett, 38, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.
Thursday, July 14, at 11:41 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 800 block of Pier Street regarding a prowler in the rear yard of a residence. When officers arrived, the man was still in the yard. He was detained without incident. The owner of the home did not want the man arrested and just asked that he be escorted off the property. While speaking with the suspect, officers determined he was under the influence of a narcotic. The suspect, who was on probation for a robbery conviction, was placed under arrest and booked for being under the influence and a probation violation. He was identified as Frank Sambrano, 21, a transient. His bail was set at $2,500.
Thursday, July 14, at 1:50 p.m.,
Officers responded to the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Rose Avenue to conduct surveillance on a suspect wanted for an outstanding warrant. The suspect was spotted and arrested. During a search, officers said they found methamphetamine in one of the suspect’s pockets. He was booked for drug possession. He was identified as Terry Wayne Weaver, 45, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $10,000.
Tuesday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m.,
Officers responded to the Co-opportunity market located on the 1500 block of Broadway regarding a man who was sitting at a table in the front of the store allegedly snorting a unknown white substance. When officers arrived, they made contact with witnesses who said that the suspect walked west into the parking lot where he collapsed and was unconscious. Officers went to help the man and said they found in his hand a baggy containing meth. The suspect appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he was later released and booked for possession of meth and marijuana, as well as several warrants. He was identified as Deke Richard McGovern, 36, a transient. His bail was set at $138,622.
Monday, July 11,
Investigators conducted an interview with a suspect they believed was responsible for stealing a bicycle on June 3, 2011. Investigators had surveillance camera footage they said showed the suspect stealing the bicycle, which was left in a secure portion of a business. Investigators said the suspect was a courier who routinely picked up and delivered packages to the business. The suspect denied stealing the bicycle. After being confronted with the footage, he decided not to cooperate with officers. He was placed under arrest and booked for burglary. He was identified as Lamont Howard, 38, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $20,000.
