Friday, Feb. 26, at 12:15 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue — Santa Monica Senior Center — regarding a strong arm robbery that just occurred. When officers arrived, they made contact with the 79-year-old victim who said that the suspect came up to her and grabbed her bowl of soup. When she tried to fight back, the suspect allegedly struck her hand and then fled with the soup. Officers located the suspect a short distance away and placed him under arrest for robbery and battery. He was identified as Filip Olson, 60, a transient. His bail was set at $50,000.
Friday, Feb. 26, at 10:28 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1800 block of Wilshire Boulevard — Rite-Aid — regarding a theft that just occurred. When officers arrived, they made contact with store employees who told them that the suspect entered the store and placed several bottles of alcohol in a basket and started to leave without paying for the items. As employees attempted to stop the suspect, he allegedly fled. Employees said they chased after him and were able to catch up with him in the area of 20th Street and Arizona Avenue. As employees detained the suspect, the suspect allegedly threatened to fight them. A physical confronted ensued and the employees were able to wrestle the suspect to the ground and hold him until police arrived. The suspect, David Davis, 48, of Los Angeles, was arrested for robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and theft with priors. His bail was set at $50,000.
Saturday, Feb. 27, at 5:15 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1550 beach parking lot regarding a fight in progress. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who told officers that the suspect approached him and was yelling at him. The suspect started to strike the victim in the face using a closed fist, police said. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect started to kick him in the face, police said. The suspect fled the scene. Officers were able to locate the suspect a short distance away and he was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily injury, and a probation violation. He was identified as Rickie Bushinsky, 48, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 5:55 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2000 block of Lincoln Boulevard — Jack in the Box — regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who said he was sitting down at a table eating when the suspect sat down at his table uninvited. The victim got up and sat at another table. The suspect appeared to be drinking an alcoholic beverage, the victim told police. The victim said he told the suspect that it was illegal to drink in public and that he was going to notify the manager. The suspect stood up and confronted the victim, police said. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a pair of scissors. As the suspect fled he threw the scissors in the garbage can, police said. Officers located the suspect a short time later and place him under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. He was identified as Luis Gomez, 46, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Thursday, Feb. 25, at 12:29 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2900 block of Main Street regarding a fight in progress. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who told them that the suspect entered a business and removed beer from the cooler. The victim checked the cooler and believed the suspect removed two beers and was only paying for one. The victim asked the suspect if had another beer on him. The suspect opened up his jacket and showed the victim he did not have another beer. The victim patted down the suspect and did not find another beer. The suspect advised the victim that he did not want to buy any beer at the store and challenged the employee to a fight outside. The employee followed the suspect, believing he still had at least one beer in his possession. Once outside, the suspect allegedly struck the employee. People walking by observed the fight and ran over to break it up. The employee placed the suspect under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was identified as Jon Simpson, 42, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 5:25 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of the Third Street Promenade regarding a theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they were advised by store security that the suspect had left without paying for merchandise. Security confronted the suspect and were able to recover stolen property from inside the suspect’s purse. Store security placed the shopper under arrest. Officers searched the suspect and found a pair of scissors in her purse, police said. The scissors were allegedly used to cut off security tags that were inside the suspect’s purse. The suspect, Passage Alpharetta, 18, of Georgia, was booked for burglary and possession of burglary tools. Her bail was set at $20,000.
