DOWNTOWN — An 82-year-old Santa Monica resident hit by a motorist earlier this week died Thursday as a result of his injuries, police said.
The pedestrian was struck Dec. 15 at 11:50 a.m. while crossing 18th Street and California Avenue, police said. He was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition.
The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, a resident of Torrance, was traveling west on California Avenue. The pedestrian was walking east in an unmarked crosswalk, police said. The accident occurred when the motorist was making a left turn.
The pedestrian died Thursday at the hospital, police said. Neither he nor the motorist was identified by police. Officers talked with the motorist following the accident. They were released and no charges were filed.
