An intracity clash took place Monday, as the Santa Monica Lady Vikings softball squad defeated the Saint Monica Lady Mariners 8-1 at Samohi. The Lady Vikings jumped out to an early lead with a 4-run first inning, holding onto the advantage throughout.
Samohi pitcher Drew Vudmaska and the Lady Vikings defense blanked the Lady Mariners for six innings until Saint Monica’s Bella Harnandez scored a seventh-inning run to stop the shutout. Vudmaska, Samohi’s designated pitcher, only gave up two hits in the afternoon contest, striking out 10 Saint Monica batters.
Vudmaska also brought in two RBIs, while Sakura Krohn and Brooke Meshekow both flashed the bat with respective doubles. Samohi is now 9-8-1 on the season, while Saint Monica sits at 3-6-1.
