SAMOHI — Santa Monica High School’s football team is heavily represented on the All-Ocean League teams, it was announced Tuesday.
Samohi had six players make the first team and five on the second team. There was also an honorable mention.
Senior wide receiver Kris Comas, who finished the season with 17 touchdown catches and returned three kicks for scores, was named to the first team on offense along with junior running back Kori Garcia and senior offensive guard Austin Ehrlich. The first team on defense included senior linebacker Justyn Coker, junior linebacker Chris Collins and senior defensive back Brandon Taylor.
The second team on offense included sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais, senior offensive tackle Joel Ramos and senior offensive lineman Evan Parra-Raygosa. Junior cornerback Dylan Muscat and senior nose tackle Terrence Sadler were named to the second team.
Junior defensive end Chad Wheeler was an honorable mention.
“I’m proud of the kids,” Head Coach Travis Clark said. “This proves we did some things this season.”
Clark, in his second season as coach, led the team to a 6-4 overall record and 3-2 in league. Despite the winning record, Samohi missed the playoffs after qualifying last season. Yet, the finish was an improvement on last year’s 4-6 regular season record.
Clark said he sees improvement from year to year and feels the team has built a good foundation for the future.
Even with improvement comes disappointment for missing the playoffs.
“It keeps us hungry,” Clark said. “It gives us something to shoot for.”
