SAMOHI — Santa Monica High School's girls' basketball team lost to Fullerton Troy, 45-39, Monday on campus. The loss was the second straight for the Vikings.
Samohi led, 15-10, after the first quarter as Troy began the night cold, missing its first seven shots of the game.
"We were on a roll," Head Coach Marty Verdugo said. "For the first five minutes of the game, we looked like the best team in SoCal."
From there, Troy's defense forced Samohi into a number of bad shots eventually pulling away for the win.
Samohi's Briana Harris led all scorers with 17 points. Troy was led by Briana Roberson, who scored 15 including a three at the end of the third quarter that gave the Warriors an eight point lead heading into the final period.
"We made a few adjustments," Troy head coach Roger Anderson said. "We tried to double-team their shooters, making them work for their points."
