Four years ago, the Rev. Janet McKeithen of the Church in Ocean Park performed a wedding ceremony for a gay couple ("Church in Ocean Park allowed to embrace homosexuality," July 27). It resulted in her condemnation by the United Methodist Church and the possible loss of her ordination.
However, just recently, a retired bishop, Melvin Talbert, stated at a Methodist conference that the church's position was immoral and unjust.
I applaud Rev. McKeithen, who was not afraid of doing "what I should do." She set the precedent for other ministers to do likewise. Change occurs when people are prepared to take risks and act upon their beliefs.
