A person reported clinging to a pylon beneath the Santa Monica Pier remains missing this morning despite search efforts by several agencies.
The Santa Monica Police Department, Fire Department, County Lifeguards and the Coast Guard have been searching the water near the Santa Monica Pier for 12 hours following reports of a swimmer in trouble. A witness reported a woman in the water clinging to one of the Pier supports at about 8:50 p.m. Sunday night but no one was found when officials searched the area.
The Santa Monica Police Department said it had no record of a missing person call related to the incident.
Crews were back in the water Monday morning and the Coast Guard suspended the search for the unidentified woman later in the day after searching more than 93 square nautical miles with multiple surface and air assets.
