A multitude of students at Grant Elementary School, spanning multiple grade levels, all came outside together for the same occurrence as millions of Americans Monday.
At 11am, Grant’s playground and athletics yard was the perfect vantage point for students and staff to view Monday’s solar eclipse, peaking at nearly half-coverage of the moon over the sun.
This was the final chance to view an at least partial solar eclipse in the Los Angeles area until Jan. 14, 2029, according to timeanddate.com, and Monday’s event was also the last nation-spanning eclipse until 2044.
Grant Principal Christian Fuhrer said the event highlighted the importance of science in student curriculum, and that he purchased safety glasses for student viewing a month prior to the eclipse.
