Thousands of Los Angeles area residents were jolted awake at 4:29 a.m. Thursday by a magnitude 4.2 earthquake centered in San Fernando. Dozens of aftershocks have ensued, including one measuring magnitude 3.8 at 6:48 a.m.
Los Angeles Fire Department preliminary reports indicate no loss of life, serious injuries or major structural damage.
