PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Santa Monica police have released sketches of two people wanted for questioning in connection with an assault on Main Street that left a man in a coma.
The assault occurred on May 6 around 1 a.m. in the 2900 block of Main Street, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis. The victim was drunk and collided with a man who had just left O’Brien’s Irish Pub. The man became upset and pushed the victim several times, knocking him to the ground where he struck his head against the concrete.
The victim, a 46-year-old white male, was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition with major head trauma.
The suspect is described as an African-American male, 25 to 30 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a muscular or stocky build, medium to dark complexion, wearing a white “V neck” shirt and dark jeans.
The suspect was in the company of a white female, mid to late 20s, 5 feet 5 inches and weighing around 130 pounds. Witnesses said she had long blond hair pulled into a ponytail, fair to light complexion, wearing a light colored blouse with shoulder straps and unknown colored pants.
Based on statements from witnesses, it is likely that the suspect frequented both O’Brien’s and the bar immediately to the north, Main on Main, prior to the assault, Lewis said. The sketches released by police are based on an eyewitness’ description.
