Sections of the Pacific Coast Highway were closed following a vehicle accident that created minor mudslides along the busy road.
According to the City of Santa Monica, both lanes were shutdown at about 3 a.m. when a vehicle rolled over and sheared off two fire hydrants. The resulting geysers on the bluff-side of the road flooded PCH and the efforts to shut the water took longer than initially expected.
The southbound lanes were reopened at about 8 a.m. and the northbound lanes opened about an hour later.
