MAIN STREET — A naked woman seen dancing on the roof of a building on Main Street Wednesday fell several stories and suffered significant injuries to her body and head, Santa Monica police said.
The victim, an Asian in her mid to late 20s with a shaved head, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition with compound fractures, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
Police detained two people, a man and woman believed to be in their mid to late 20s, who were seen with the victim before she fell. Witnesses told police that the man was also nude. The two people ran from the scene, Lewis said.
Detectives are investigating. It is not clear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
“This may have been a party that went horribly wrong,” Lewis said.
Police received a report at 4:18 p.m. of a naked woman on the roof of the One Life Natural Foods Market building near the corner of Main and Marine streets. The building is roughly five stories tall.
Witnesses said the woman was seen dancing with a flag pole before moving to the edge of the building, where she sat dangling her feet over the edge. Witnesses told police that the woman either pushed herself or lost her balance and fell onto Main Street as people watched.
When officers arrived they found the woman near a sidewalk with severe injuries.
An employee at One Life told the Daily Press that there was a large police presence in the area and that the woman was bleeding from the head.
A witness who called 911 said that the woman was on the roof for “quite a while” naked, doing what looked like yoga poses and possibly lost her balance and fell.
