DOWNTOWN L.A. — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m., to hear comments on the proposed Clean Water, Clean Beaches Measure.
The hearing will take place during the board's regular meeting in the Board Hearing Room at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple St. in Los Angeles. The hearing is the first in a two-step process established by Proposition 218.
The measure is designed to establish an annual property-based fee to be paid by all property owners within the L.A. County Flood Control District. Revenues would provide cities and unincorporated communities within the district with a dedicated funding source to reduce trash and pollution in local waterways and protect local sources of drinking water from pollution.
The typical fee for a single-family residence would be $54. The measure would generate approximately $295 million annually.
Santa Monicans already pay a clean beaches parcel tax — Measure V — which was approved by voters in 2006. It raises approximately $2.3 million annually for local stormwater diversion projects to improve water quality at local beaches.
The board meeting will be webcast live via the county website at LACounty.info. Requests to address the board on this item must be submitted in person to the Executive Officer of the board prior to the item being called.
